Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International Working President Ashok Singhal today urged the Centre not to issue visa to members of the United States Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), who are trying to visit India this month.

Addressing a press conference here, he said USCIRF was a self-appointed committee of the United States, which had no moral right to set up a such commission. Claiming that the commission had no legal sanction from the United Nations Organisation (UNO), Mr Singhal alledged that the commission was concerned only about a particular community.

Stating that the commission had prepared a list of 13 countries to visit, he alleged that it was the same organisation which had opposed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the USA. The commission was not allowed to visit India for the last ten years, he said and alleged that now it was trying the visit probably at the instance of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
