The non-binding resolution, proposed on behalf of Islamic states, does not protect religions at all, according to Knox Thames of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.
 
"It's an attempt by some member states to influence international human-rights standards," says Thames, "and [to] limit the freedoms of religion and expression by saying certain topics are off limits and that any discussion should be criminalized."
