Namse was imprisoned in relation to protesting religious freedom conditions.

On August 12, 2012, public security officials detained several monks of Tsodun Monastery, including Namse, reportedly for having alleged links to two self-immolations that occurred in March 2012.

In January 2013, the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Namse to 10 years in prison on unspecified charges.

Namse's sentence should have ended in August 2022.
