Hu Weijun was imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.

On May 17, 2013, police in Yancheng city, Jiangsu province, detained Hu reportedly in relation to his printing of religious materials.

On December 15, 2014, the Dafeng City People’s Court of Jiangsu Province sentenced Hu to nine years in prison and three years' deprived political rights for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).

Hu was believed to have served his sentence at Hongzehu Prison, Jiangsu.

Hu's sentence should have ended in May 2022.
