USCIRF Chair Tony Perkins, Vice Chair Gayle Manchin, Vice Chair Nadine Maenza, Commissioner Anurima Bhargava, Commissioner James W. Carr, and Commissioner Johnnie Moore have been reappointed to serve a second term through May 14, 2022.
USCIRF today welcomed President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order on “Advancing International Religious Freedom,” which elevates the U.S. government’s prioritization of religious freedom in its foreign policy; increases foreign assistance funding to $50 million annually; expands mandatory training on international religious freedom to more federal officials; encourages the utilization of economic tools; and more explicitly integrates international religious freedom into U.S. bilateral and multilateral diplomacy.
5/29/20: USCIRF Commissioner James Carr Adopts Deacon Zhang Wen Shi of North Korea and Pastor A Dao of Vietnam through the Religious Prisoners of Conscience Project
USCIRF Commissioner James W. Carr announced today his adoptions of Deacon Zhang Wen Shi (also known as Jang Moon Seok) and Pastor A Dao, both of whom he will advocate for as part of USCIRF’s Religious Prisoners of Conscience Project.
USCIRF condemned the arrest of Ramzan Bibi, a 55-year-old Ahmadi Muslim woman in Cheleki, Pakistan, on blasphemy charges.
USCIRF commends the passage of the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act (S.3744) in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Senate approved the bill by unanimous consent on May 14.
