On October 15, 2018, officers from the Kuitun City Public Security Bureau in Xinjiang arrested Liu reportedly in relation to her handling of religious testimonials posted on the church's website.
On September 10, 2019, the Kuitun People’s Court in Xinjiang sentenced Liu to seven years in prison and fined her 40,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
