Zhang Xue is imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.
In November 2018, officers from the Yining City Public Security Bureau in Xinjiang detained Zhang reportedly in relation to evangelizing activities, organizing church gatherings, and her religious leadership role for churches in the Yining area.
On September 4, 2019, the Kuitun People’s Court in Xinjiang sentenced Zhang to nine years in prison and fined her 40,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
