Chen Hong is imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.
On June 23, 2017, authorities criminally detained Chen, a church leader, after accusing her organizing religious meetings, preaching, and being in possession of religious materials on electronic devices. Sources indicate she may have been originally detained roughly three weeks earlier on June 1.
On October 22, 2018, the Zaozhuang Intermediate People's Court sentenced Chen to 12 years in prison, four years' deprivation of political rights, and imposed a fine of 130,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Chen is believed to be serving her sentence at Shandong Women’s Prison.
