Gu Liya is imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.
On June 23, 2017, authorities criminally detained Gu, a church leader, after accusing her of organizing religious meetings, preaching, and being in possession of religious materials on electronic devices. Sources indicate she may have been originally detained roughly three weeks earlier on June 1.
On October 22, 2018, the Zaozhuang Intermediate People's Court sentenced Gu to 11 years in prison, three years' deprivation of political rights, and imposed a fine of 110,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Gu is believed to be serving her sentence at Shandong Women’s Prison.
