On February 18, 2015, police detained Ren at her home reportedly in relation to her religious leadership role, organizing of religious gatherings, preaching, and distributing of religious materials.
On May 18, 2017, the Qiaocheng District People’s Court sentenced Ren to nine years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
On July 31, 2017, the Bozhou Intermediate People’s Court rejected Ren's appeal.
Ren was taken to Anhui Women’s Prison to serve her sentence.

On August 9, 2017, the Kuiwen District People’s Court in Weifang, Shandong, sentenced him Yang to eight years in prison and fined her 50,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
