Zhang Ming was imprisoned for his religious activity.
On June 29, 2018, officers from Kuandian Country Domestic Security Division arrested Zhang and a colleague for having Falun Gong-related materials in their vehicle. They were taken to the Kuandian Detention Center. Their houses were raided afterwards.
On July 13, 2018, Zhang was officially arrested. Local authorities reportedly tried to get him to stop practicing Falun Gong.
On March 27, 2019, the Zhen'an District Court sentenced Zhang to one year in prison and fined him 2,000 yuan.
Zhang's sentence should have ended in June 2019.
There are allegations that Zhang was denied proper medical care while detained.
Zhang is a widow with one daughter, who is a U.S. resident.

In 2017, authorities detained Kari, a textile trader, amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).
In 2019, it was discovered that Kari had been sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison for “participating in terrorist organizations” and “using extremism to undermine law enforcement."

Xiao Shunyuan is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On December 24, 2017, police detained Xiao in Suzhou district, Jiuquan city, Gansu province, reportedly in relation to his religious beliefs and activity.
On June 14, 2019, Jiuquan City Court sentenced Xiao to seven years and six months in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Prior to this most recent imprisonment, Xiao was detained for 15 days in 2012 in relation to his religious activity. He was reportedly tortured during this time.
