Gong Xingqi was imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On October 17, 2016, the police in Weifang city, Shandong province detained Gong reportedly in relation to his religious belief, organizing and participating in church gatherings, using electronics for proselytizing purposes, and organizing Christians to write about their spirituality.
On August 9, 2017, the Kuiwen District People’s Court in Weifang, Shandong, sentenced him Gong to seven years in prison and fined him 30,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Gong's sentence should have ended in October 2023.
