Apollinaris Darmawan was imprisoned for his religious expression.
In August 2020, Bandung police arrested Darmawan after he was accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad and Islam on social media.
On December 22, 2020, the Bandung District Court sentenced Darmawan to five years in prison and fined him 800 million rupiah for “disseminating information aimed at inflicting hatred or dissension on individuals and/or certain groups of the community based on ethnic groups, religions, races, and inter-groups” (Art. 28 Electronic Information and Transaction, ITE).
In November 2024, Apollinaris Darmawan was released from prison.

Muhammad Kece is imprisoned for his religious expression.
On August 24, 2021, authorities arrested Kece, a preacher, at his friend’s home in Bali after accusing him of posting videos on YouTube insulting Islam. Authorities charged him with “disseminating information aimed at inflicting hatred,” “insulting religion," and "preventing a person from adhering to any religion based on a belief in God” under Art. 45(2), Art. 28(2) of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law and Art. 156a of the Indonesia Criminal Code.
On April 6, 2022, the Ciamis District Court in West Java province sentenced Kece to 10 years' imprisonment for blasphemy.
