On May 9, 2018, police arrested Yang after raiding a house in Jiujiang city, Jiangxi province, where Yang and others were gathered. Police also reportedly confiscated several laptops, religious books, and cash.

On March 21, 2019, Yang was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined 50,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
