Remzi Kurtnezirov

Remzi Kurtnezirov is under house arrest for his religious belief and association. 

In March 2024, authorities in Russian-occupied Crimea raided the homes of several Crimean Tatar Muslims, including Kurtnezirov, and arrested him. Authorities accused him of being a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir, a religious organization banned in Russia but not in Ukraine. After his arrest, authorities placed him under house arrest due to his health issues including diabetes, hypertension, and paralysis on the right side of his body.  

In May 2026, authorities sentenced Kurtnezirov to 20 years' imprisonment on charges of terrorism (Art. 205.5-1 RCC) and delayed his imprisonment pending appeal.

In 2001, North Korean officials detained NP-0399, along with 29 other North Koreans, after they were refouled from China. Chinese authorities had discovered a Bible among the group and beat them when no one confessed to owning it. When they were refouled, North Korean officials confined NP-0399 and others at North Pyongan Provincial MSS Detention Center and subjected them to invasive cavity searches.

Authorities sentenced NP-0399 to indefinite imprisonment at a political prison camp.
