In 2017, authorities detained Kari, a textile trader, amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).
In 2019, it was discovered that Kari had been sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison for “participating in terrorist organizations” and “using extremism to undermine law enforcement."

Xiao Shunyuan is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On December 24, 2017, police detained Xiao in Suzhou district, Jiuquan city, Gansu province, reportedly in relation to his religious beliefs and activity.
On June 14, 2019, Jiuquan City Court sentenced Xiao to seven years and six months in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Prior to this most recent imprisonment, Xiao was detained for 15 days in 2012 in relation to his religious activity. He was reportedly tortured during this time.

On June 22, 2013, officers from the Liaoning Provincial Public Security Department, detained Xing as she attended a meeting with other Christians in Fuxin city, Liaoning province.
In July 2014, Xing's family was informed that she had been sentenced to 11 years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL). The date of her sentencing is unclear.
Xing is believed to be serving her sentence in Liaoning Women’s Prison.
