Liu Meiling

On June 22, 2018, officers from the Jiujiang National Security Brigade detained Liu reportedly in relation to her religious belief and possession of religious materials.

On March 25, 2019, the Yongxiu County People’s Court sentenced Liu to six years in prison and fined her 10,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).

On an unspecified date, the Intermediate People’s Court rejected Liu's appeal.

Zhang Ming

Zhang Ming was imprisoned for his religious activity.

On June 29, 2018, officers from Kuandian Country Domestic Security Division arrested Zhang and a colleague for having Falun Gong-related materials in their vehicle. They were taken to the Kuandian Detention Center. Their houses were raided afterwards.

On July 13, 2018, Zhang was officially arrested. Local authorities reportedly tried to get him to stop practicing Falun Gong. 

On March 27, 2019, the Zhen'an District Court sentenced Zhang to one year in prison and fined him 2,000 yuan.

Zhang's sentence should have ended in June 2019.

There are allegations that Zhang was denied proper medical care while detained. 

Zhang is a widow with one daughter, who is a U.S. resident.
