On August 16, 2018, authorities arrested Usmanov after accusing him of being a member of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir organization. Prosecutors accused him of participating in Hizb ut-Tahrir meetings where participants studied the organization's literature and of seeking to attract new members for the organization.
In August 2019, the Volga District Military Court sentenced sentenced Usmanov to 11 years in prison for “participating in the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist” (Art. 205.5-2 RCC).
Usmanov is married with one child.

On March 13, 2019, the Privolzhsky District Military Court sentenced Tulyakov to 18 years in prison and one-and-a-half years of restricted freedom for "organizing the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist" (Art. 205.5-1 RCC).
