Tursun Hoshur

Tursun Hoshur is detained for his religious activity and ethnoreligious identity. 

In July 2017, public security authorities in Shaptul township, Peyziwat (Jiashi) county, Kashgar prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), detained Hoshur, a retired teacher and Communist Party member. Local police said his arrest was in relation to his religious practice, including attending weekly prayer services and regularly fasting during Ramadan. Hoshur's detention came amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in 2017.

Hoshur's son was also detained.

Qelbinur Tohti

Qelbinur Tohti is detained for her religious activity and ethnoreligious identity. 

In August 2017, public security officials in Urumqi municipality, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) detained Tohti, a clothing industry entrepreneur, reportedly in relation to her performance of religious rites at funerals and refusal to comply with official demands to change her three children’s names. Her arrest came amid mass detentions of ethnic minorities in XUAR.

Tohti's family, including her husband and two sisters, have also been subjected to detention.

Memet'eli Atawulla

Memet'eli Atawulla is detained for his ethnoreligious identity.

In August 2017, authorities detained Atawulla and held him at a "political reeducation" center months after his brother, Rozimemet Atawulla, was detained for "religious extremism" and sent to the same center. Their detentions were reportedly part of a wave of detentions of Uyghurs in Hotan County in 2017 and 2018.  

Atawulla was reportedly hospitalized at some point due to detention conditions. 

Other members of Atawulla's family, including his mother, and brother-in-law, have also been subjected to detention.
