On April 4, 2018, plainclothes security officials in Dari (Darlag) county, Guoluo (Golog) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai province detained Drolma while she was traveling on pilgrimage to Lhasa, Tibetan Autonomous Region. Her arrest reportedly stemmed from her visits to an imprisoned monk who had been arrested for participating in protests calling for the Dalai Lama's return to Tibet and religious and linguistic rights for Tibetans.

In May 2019, public security officials in Driru (Biru) county, Nagchu (Naqu) municipality, Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), detained Dragpa, a singer, reportedly over a song he released in March 2019 critical of Chinese government policies in Driru. Dragpa was reportedly beaten and deprived of legal counsel while detained.

On July 1, 2013, public security officials detained Gedun, a monk at Drongsar Monastery, as he staged a solo protest in Basu (Pashoe), Changdu (Chamdo) prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, calling for Tibetan independence and the Dalai Lama's return. Gedun was reportedly tortured while detained.
