Ro Mah Them is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
In December 2020, authorities arrested Them following a crackdown on the First Christian Church, an independent house church. Authorities accused him of being in contact with an American-based pastor, whom they allege use his religion to support separatist activities in Vietnam.
In August 2021, the People's Court of Gia Lai Province sentenced Them to five years in prison and three years' probation for "undermining national unity policy" (Art. 87/1999).
