Hou Qingrong was imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.
On March 16, 2018, officers from the Public Security Bureau in the Mosuowan Reclamation Area, Shihezi city, detained Hou reportedly in relation to her religious beliefs.
On April 29, 2019, the Mosuowan Reclamation Area People’s Court in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps sentenced Hou to five years and six months in prison and fined her 8,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Hou's sentence should have ended in September 2023.
