In 2001, North Korean officials detained NP-0374 after they were refouled by China for associating with an individual who possessed a Bible. Chinese authorities had discovered a Bible among the group, beat them when no one confessed to owning it, and refouled them to North Korea. When they arrived, North Korean officials confined them at North Hamgyong MSS Detention Center, where detainees are subjected to forced nudity, invasive cavity searches, severe beatings, and inhumane sanitary conditions. 

Authorities sentenced them to indefinite imprisonment at a political prison camp.

In 2010, Ministry of People's Security officials imprisoned NP-0115 at Chongori Re-education Camp No. 12 for reciting the Apostle's Creed and the Lord's Prayer with another Christian convert. Detention authorities transferred her to another cell after she proselytized to other prisoners in the re-education camp. 

Authorities re-sentenced her to indefinite imprisonment in a political prison camp for her religious "crimes."
