On March 14, 2017, authorities arrested Yamaliev after accusing him of being a member of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir organization. Prosecutors accused him of organizing meetings for the organization, possessing banned literature, and trying to attract new members.
On March 13, 2019, the Privolzhsky District Military Court sentenced Yamaliev to 20 years in prison and two years of restricted freedom for "organizing the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist" (Art. 205.5-1 RCC), "inciting others to commit crimes envisioned under Article 278 of the Russian Criminal Code" (Art. 205.1-1 RCC), and "involving a minor in a criminal group or in the commission of a grave or especially grave crime" (Art. 150-4 RCC).
Yamaliev is married with three children.

On February 4, 2015, authorities arrested Yakupov after accusing of being a member of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir organization. He was initially charged with “participating in the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist” (Art. 205.5-2 RCC).
In January 2016, Yakupov was also charged with "preparing for actions aimed at the forcible seizure of power or the forcible retention of power” (Art. 30-1/Art. 278 RCC).
On July 30, 2018, the Volga District Military Court sentenced Yakupov to 13 years in prison and one year of restricted freedom for “participating in the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist” (Art. 205.5-2 RCC) and "preparing for actions aimed at the forcible seizure of power or the forcible retention of power” (Art. 30-1/Art. 278 RCC). Yakupov was also fined 450,000 rubles.

In December 2019, the Central District Military Court sentenced Yakubov to 17 years in prison for "organizing the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist" (Art. 205.5-1 RCC) and "financing terrorist activities" (Art. 205.1-1 RCC).
Yakubov is married with three children.
