Ali Shaker is detained for not engaging in religious activities according to the standards of a non-state entity.
On May 31, 2021, Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham forces reportedly arrested Shaker and Muhammad Mustafa inside a mosque after accusing them of not praying afternoon prayer (Asr) with a group of other worshippers. The two were students an institution for memorizing the Quran in al Tawwama village, Aleppo governorate.
