Almaz Usmanov is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On August 16, 2018, authorities arrested Usmanov after accusing him of being a member of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir organization. Prosecutors accused him of participating in Hizb ut-Tahrir meetings where participants studied the organization's literature and of seeking to attract new members for the organization.
In August 2019, the Volga District Military Court sentenced Usmanov to 11 years' imprisonment for “participating in the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist” (Art. 205.5-2 RCC).
Usmanov is married with one child.
