Anna Safronova is imprisoned for her religious belief and activity. 

On June 2, 2021, authorities detained Safronova after searching her residence. The month prior, authorities reportedly initiated a criminal case against Safronova for “participating in the activities of a public or religious association, or any other organization in respect of which a court has adopted a final decision to liquidate or ban activities in connection with extremist activities” (Art. 282.2-2 RCC) and “collecting funds…intended to finance the organization, preparation and commission of at least one of the crimes of an extremist orientation, or to ensure the activities of an extremist community or an extremist organization” (Art. 282.3-1 RCC) in relation to her attending online religious services.

On June 3, 2021, the Kirovsky District Court of Astrakhan placed Safronova under house arrest.

On January 25, 2022, the Trusovsky District Court of Astrakhan sentenced Safronova to six years in prison. She was taken into custody following the verdict.

On April 14, 2022, the Astrakhan Regional Court upheld Safronova's sentence.

On February 21, 2023, the Fourth Court of Cassation of General Jurisdiction in Krasnodar upheld Safronova's sentence.

Safronova is serving her sentence at Penal Colony No. 7 in the Stavropol territory.

Safronova is the caretaker of her elderly mother.
