On October 30, 2017, authorities detained Ding Shumei and Huang Liping after police allegedly caught them distributing Falun Gong materials in Yaohai district, Hefei municipality, Anhui province.
On August 9, 2019, the Hefei Economic and Technological Development District People's Court in Shushan district, Hefei, sentenced Ding to eight years in prison and fined her 50,000 yuan.
