Dmitriy Barmakin is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On July 28, 2018, authorities arrested Barmakin and his wife, Yelena, after raiding the apartment they were visiting. Barmakin was charged with “organizing the activities of a public or religious association or other organization in respect of which a court has adopted a final decision to liquidate or ban activities in connection with extremist activities” (Art. 282.2-1 RCC). Yelena was released.
On October 18, 2019, Barmakin was released and prohibited from changing his place of residence, communicating with specific people, receiving mail, and using communication facilities.
On November 22, 2021, the Pervorechenskiy District Court of Vladivostok acquitted Barmakin.
On April 8, 2022, the Primorye Territory Court overturned Barmakin's acquittal and ordered a new trial.
On April 27, 2023, Pervorechensky District Court of Vladivostok sentenced Barmakin to eight years in prison. He was taken into custody following the verdict.
On August 8, 2023, the Primorsky Regional Court in Vladivostok overturned Barmakin's sentence and ordered a new trial. Barmakin was released on bail.
On February 6, 2024, the Primorsky Regional Court sentenced Barmakin to eight years in prison. Barmakin was taken into custody following the verdict.
Barmakin is married.
