Guan Caihua was imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.
On May 20, 2014, authorities detained Guan reportedly in relation to her religious beliefs, religious leadership role, and organizing of worship gatherings. Ten day later, Guan was released on bail.
On May 12, 2015, police from Jiange County Public Security Bureau National Security Brigade in Guangyuan arrested Guan again.
On July 28, 2016, Jiange County People’s Court sentenced Guan to eight years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
