Guo Xijin is under house arrest for his religious activity and leadership role. 

Around December 2024, authorities confined Guo, an ordained priest in the unregistered Mindong Diocese in Fujian province, to his residence and sealed his chapel. The year leading up to his detention, authorities had increasingly pressured Guo and other clergy to register with the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association. Guo was previously detained in 1990, 1993, and 1996 for refusing to register his parish.
