Husnitdin Umaraliev was imprisoned in relation to his religious belief and activity.
In July 1999, authorities arrested Umaraliev when he filed a report with the military prosecutor's office about the murder of his brother, Umaraliev Khasanboy Erkinovich. Authorities charged him with “attempts to overthrow the constitutional order” (Art. 159 UCC) and an unspecified subsection of Article 244 UCC after accusing him of “religious extremism."
On July 5, 1999, the Fergana Region Court sentenced Umaraliev to 17 years in prison.
In 2010, the Kungrad district court sentenced Umaraliev to an additional three years and six months in prison for violating prison rules (Art. 221 UCC).
In May 2012, Umaraliev was sentenced to an additional 13 years on unspecified charges in a trial that took place in prison.
In September 2022, it was reported that Umaraliev had been released.
