In 2018, authorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) detained Iminjan, the owner of a real estate firm, along with several of his family members reportedly in relation to their religious practice. Iminjan's detention came amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in XUAR.
On an unspecified date, Iminjan was reportedly sentenced to 20 years in prison on unknown charges. Authorities also reportedly confiscated his property.
