In May 2018, authorities arrested Li while he was allegedly distributing out Falun Gong-related materials. Police reportedly searched his home and seized Falun Gong-related materials and electronics.

On an unspecified date, Li was reportedly sentenced to three years and six months in prison and fined 20,000 yuan.
