On November 22, 2018, officers from the Yining City Public Security Bureau detained Li reportedly in relation to her religious belief, religious leadership role, and organizing of worship meetings.
On September 4, 2019, the Kuitun City People’s Court sentenced Li to six years in prison and fined her 30,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
