Liu Huijuan was imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.
On December 20, 2017, officers from the Pingdingshan City Public Security Bureau detained Liu reportedly in relation to her religious belief and religious leadership role.
On August 9, 2018, the Zhanhe District People’s Court in Pingdingshan sentenced Liu to six years in prison and fined her 10,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Liu's sentence should have ended in December 2023.
