Mamirzhan Tashmatov was imprisoned for his criticism of religious freedom violations.
On October 18, 2023, Kyrgyz authorities arrested Madraimov for participating in a video that protested the raid and closure of the Al-Sarakhsi mosque in Kara-Suu district. This raid came amidst a larger government crackdown on Islamic institutions throughout Kyrgyzstan.
On February 26, 2024, the Kara-Suu district court sentenced Madraimov to three years' imprisonment on charges of inciting discord through the use of the internet (Art. 330-1 KCC).
Tashmatov was released from prison in May 2024.
