Mikhail Koval is imprisoned for his religious activity. 

In October 2023, authorities detained Koval, parishioner of the banned Vozrozhenie ("Revival") Church, for his involvement with the church, including recruitment of new members and charitable giving. 

In December 2024, a Moscow court sentenced Koval to 4 years' imprisonment and banned him from engaging in religious activity for 7 years for "organizing the activities of an organization designated as undesirable" (Art. 284.1 RCC).
