In June 2024, Iranian authorities arrested Morteza for distributing "illegal" Christian books and participating in online Christian courses and church services. In July 2025, authorities sentenced Morteza to 9 years, 6 months' imprisonment for “propaganda contrary to Islamic law,” “propaganda against the regime,” and for allegedly insulting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
