Muhammad Kece is imprisoned for expression about religion.

On August 24, 2021, authorities arrested Kece, a preacher, at a friend’s home in Bali after accusing him of posting videos on YouTube insulting the Prophet Muhammad and Islam. Kece is reportedly charged with “disseminating information aimed at inflicting hatred or dissension on individuals and/or certain groups of community based on ethnic groups, religions, races, and inter-groups” (Art. 45(2) in conjunction with Art. 28(2) Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE)) and/or “insulting a religion" or "preventing a person from adhering to any religion based on a belief in God” (Art. 156a ICC).

On April 6, 2022, the Ciamis District Court in West Java province sentenced Kece to 10 years in prison.
