Nadeem Samson is imprisoned for blasphemy-related offenses.
On November 24, 2017, Samson was arrested and accused of committing blasphemy on Facebook following a property dispute. Police allegedly tortured him into confessing. He is supposedly charged with "insulting the Prophet Muhammad" (Sec. 295-C).
Samson's requests for bail have been repeatedly denied. As of most recently in June 2021, the Lahore High Court rejected Samson's request for bail. He reportedly filed an appeal with the Supreme Court in July 2021.
Samson is reportedly living in inhumane conditions at the District Jail in Lahore, where he has also been denied adequate medical care for treating kidney stones.
There are also reports that Samson's family continuously faces threats of violence. His brother, Shakeel Anjum Raphael, is a U.S. citizen.
On January 6, 2022, the Supreme Court granted Samson bail.
