Patem Rozi is imprisoned for her religious activity and religious and ethnic identity.
In 2017, authorities in Hotan (Hetian) Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), detained Rozi after accusing her of “illegal religious preaching." Rozi's detention came amid mass detentions of largely Muslim ethnic minorities in XUAR in 2017.
Later in 2017, Rozi was sentenced to ten years in prison.
Rozi has a husband, who is also detained, and their son died while they were in detention.
