Roman Makhnev

Roman Makhnev is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity. 

In June 2019, authorities arrested Makhnev, along with other Jehovah's Witnesses, after raiding their homes. Following his arrest, authorities handcuffed him to a heat pipe and denied him food for three days. 

In December 2019, Judge Olga Alabugina of the Kaluga District Court placed Makhnev under house arrest. 

In early 2020, Makhnev's house arrest was lifted. 

In March 2026, Judge Irina Tarelicheva of the Kaluzhskiy District Court sentenced Makhnev to 6 years, 6 months' imprisonment in a penal colony for his religious activities (Art. 282.2 (1) RCC). Makhnev was taken into custody following the verdict.
