In 2020, authorities arrested Ali after he was accused of insulting various Islamic figures following a religious debate between Ali and another individual.
In July 2023, a court in Hassan Abdal sentenced Ali to death for "insulting the Prophet Muhammad" (Sec. 295-C PPC). The court also sentenced him to 3 years' imprisonment for "using derogatory remarks in respect of holy personages" (Sec. 298-A PPC) and fined him 1,000,000 rupees.
