Shahram Najaf-Tomaraei was imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On November 25, 2015, authorities arrested Najaf-Tomaraei reportedly in relation to his being Baha'i. They reportedly searched his home and confiscated some of his belongings.
On December 15, 2015, Najaf-Tomaraei was released on bail.
In December 2019, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Najaf-Tomaraei to two years in prison reportedly for "assembling and colluding to act against national security" (Art. 610 IPC).
On March 13, 2022, Najaf-Tomaraei was taken into custody and sent to Evin Prison to begin serving his sentence.
On February 9, 2023, Najaf-Tomaraei was reportedly released from prison.
