Tao Qidong is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On May 14, 2018, officers from the Yongxiu County Public Security Bureau detained Tao while at a worship gathering in Tubu town, Yongxiu county, Jiujiang city, Jiangxi province.
On November 8, 2018, the Yongxiu County People’s Court sentenced Tao to eight years in prison and fined his 20,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Tao was taken to Nanchang Prison in Jiangxi to serve his sentence.
