In December 2013, security officials detained Gyaltsen, a monk from Drongna Monastery, located in Biru (Driru) county, Naqu (Nagchu) prefecture, Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR), reportedly for possessing images of the Dalai Lama and recordings of his speeches and teachings. Gyaltsen was reportedly charged with "inciting splittism."
On an unspecified date, Gyaltsen was reportedly sentenced to 18 years in prison.
