Tsezung Kyab was imprisoned in relation to religious freedom protests.
In December 2012, public security officials detained several Tibetans, including Kyab, in relation to a fatal self-immolation the month before.
On February 28, 2013, the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAP) Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Kyab to 10 years in prison for “intentional homicide” (Art. 232 CCL). Authorities reportedly accused Kyab of "inciting" an individual to self-immolate.
Kyab's sentence should have ended in December 2022.
