Victim NP-0103 is detained for his religious activity. 

In 2001, North Korean authorities detained NP-0103 after he was refouled from China. Chinese authorities had arrested him while he was proselytizing to other North Koreans in China. North Korean authorities confined him at North Pyongan Provincial MSS Detention Center, where detainees are subjected to forced nudity and invasive cavity searches, beatings, overcrowding, inhumane sanitary conditions, and starvation. NP-0103 was again caught proselytizing to fellow detainees, placing him at risk for severe punishment, including torture and execution.
