On June 16, 2022, authorities in Kaiyuan City, Yunnan Province detained Wu for her religious activities with the Church of Almighty God, including possessing religious materials.
On April 27, 2023, the Jianshui County People’s Court sentenced Wu to six years and six months in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL). The court also fined her 10,000 yuan.
